Colon Problems
Symptoms of Colon Problems
Here's a list of symptoms of colon problems, listed
by disease or condition.
Constipation Symptoms of constipation include unusually dry, hard and small stools that may even be painful to pass.
Persistent straining during a bowel movement is another symptom. Constipation itself isn't a disease, but
usually indicates some other underlying digestive problem.
Diarrhea Symptoms of diarrhea are
well known and hard to miss. Diarrhea is usually not serious but can be annoying and embarrassing in social
situations. But it may also indicate some other problems, such as colon cancer, Crohn’s disease, celiac disease,
ulcerative colitis, inflammatory bowel disease or irritable bowl syndrome (commonly known as IBS).
Symptoms of colon cancer include
-
Changes in your bowel habits, including diarrhea or constipation, especially if there's a persistent
change in stool consistency or color.
-
People with colon cancer often report that they don't feel that their bowl has completely emptied after
a movement.
-
Abdominal pain, discomfort or cramps during a bowel movement.
-
Relatively rapid, unexplained weight loss
-
An unusual, frequent feeling of weariness, weakness or fatigue
Here are other symptoms of colon problems.
IBS or Irritable Bowl Syndrome symptoms include diarrhea or constipation,
cramping, abdominal pain, and stomach bloating.
Diverticulosis and Diverticulitis Diverticulosis usually doesn't
present symptoms, although there's sometimes mild cramping, bloating, and constipation. Symptoms of diverticulitis
include fever, nausea, vomiting, chills, cramping, and constipation.
Crohn's disease This inflammatory disorder is characterized by diarrhea
and abdominal discomfort. Arthritis is also a symptom, along with, persistent rectal bleeding that could even lead
to anemia. People with Crohn's disease are also prone to skin problems and unexplained or unexpected weight
loss.
Ulcerative colitis symptoms include bleeding, pus filled ulcers in the
lining of the colon and rectum. Diarrhea and frequent bowel movements are common symptoms.
Celiac disease Typical symptoms are weight loss, chronic diarrhea,
vomiting, light foul-smelling stool, abdominal pain, irritability bloating and other colon problems. A person with
celiac disease cannot tolerate gluten, which triggers an adverse response from their immune system.
